I often wonder what makes a person sing? Many have actually define singing as something which could actually root from one’s heart. It is often referred to as the language of one’s soul. But how do we justify the sincerity of one’s music?
No matter how I try to think about it, I always feel sympathetic to those who have been misjudge on how they are actually filling their music with the feelings they ought to have shared. Is it really fair to actually judge the sincerity of one’s musicality through pedagogies we learn in school? Can the outpour of love, compassion, hurt, anger, joy, stillness and weariness be measured by technicalities of commercialist music industry?
I do not, in any way, seek to mislead anybody reading this. I actually the people who regulate the industry and many among which despite their successes and achievements never stopped actually helping the “newbies” to kick off. But what I think is more helpful is when we stop filtering the songs we appreciate by what we think is good or not. A song may not be melodic, yet it could be something that the composer poured his totality. I encourage you to listen, feel and embrace the uniqueness of each musician, after all, each of us is given wisdom and free will to succumb on whichever we think deserves an applause, however, we may find some not-so-good songs, but still consider the passion and zeal of the person who composed or who sang it.
Our God has been so gracious with us, shouldn’t we be with our fellowmen?
Another long and tiring day passed. A lot has been done this day and what a perfect opportunity it is to sit back and just relax from the hassle of school work and everything else. It was a moment of a great ordeal of esteem for me, a moment for reflecting on my life and how it is unfolding before me.
As I keep gazing to nowhere and ponder on my thoughts, I decided to put on the television set to watch local channels and I came across a communications company’s advertisement that somehow triggered my mind to reason. It started with two young ladies strolling through a pavement where one was [trying her best] acting very depressed and “can’t-live-without-you” kind of effect because she just broke up with her boyfriend. Despite the obvious [exaggerated] drama of this girl, her friend doesn’t seem to notice because she’s extremely absorbed by her new [Smart] SIM.
When the dejected girl was finally exhausted speaking, the over-consumed friend answered with a smile, “Tinext ko na sila lahat”. (I have texted everyone!) Then they entered a room full of young men and the other girl went from disheartened to hysterical. Towards the end one among the gentlemen approach her to exchange names and but instead the girl exclaimed, “I’m single!” There are two major points why I am not really amused with this advertisement. Though in purpose of a catching propaganda for their product, it surely is a hit, but then my understanding sees it in another perspective.
Friendship perhaps is something that is so simple that it could be considered a universal thing that the whole world can easily understand it. However, though each of us have [of course] friends on our sides, it seems though that a lot still don’t really know what being a friend meant. I may sound a bit sentimental, but I think friendship is a treasure that shouldn’t be taken for granted and to this matter, not to be portrayed as such. A friend is someone who we cling to when the whole world has turned its back on us, someone who shares with us our joys and even our sorrows. A friend is someone who would listen when we have no one to talk to. I may be overreacting, but I think portrayal of a friend in such a way, isn’t what I wish to see in my regular channel browsing.
Second, when the girl exclaimed, “I’m single!” One moment she was drop-dead like feeling so depressed with her break-up then the next she’s there flirting with the new guy. Somehow it got me thinking, is she really sad that she just lost her boyfriend, who in terms I understand, is supposed to be the one she’ll be sharing her moments with or is she just afraid to someone who would stand beside her to carry her things and eat with her to some fancy restaurant. The scene somewhat is diminutive to that true essence of companionship and [I don’t know if it’s applicable in this case.] love.
Finally, I think writers should evaluate the way they present ideas because sometimes what is entertaining destructs the very foundation of the values of authentic companionship.
